Wushu Delivers First Asian Games Gold For Malaysia
INCHEON: Tai Cheau Xuen claimed a surprise gold and the first medal for Malaysia at the Incheon Asian Games.
Gold For MalaysiaThe Negri Sembilan exponent scored 19.23 to win the women’s nandao and nanquan all round ahead of Indonesia’s Wasni Juwita Niza who scored 19.19 at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium on Saturday.
Favourite Wei Hong of China missed her steps and settled for bronze with 19.15.
Fellow Malaysian Diana Bong failed in her bid to win a medal and settled for 12th placing with 18.25.
It is the fourth consecutive time wushu had delivered a gold medal for Malaysia at the Games with Ho Ro Bin (2002) and Chai Fong Ying (2006 and 2010) being the other previous winners - The Star online
